Botswana mandates pre-border clearance

Commercial transporters without pre-approved customs declarations risk fines under Botswana’s new border clearance rule.

From 1 August, commercial road freight operators transporting goods into or out of Botswana must obtain customs approval before travelling to the border. The new Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) requirements aim to improve compliance, reduce border delays and streamline cross-border trade, with fines for transporters who fail to comply.
